After falling to the losers' bracket, both IdrA and Major put together a string of impressive victories to reach the final. The winner of this series would be two matches away from winning the North American championship and earning a trip to the World Championship in Shanghai.
Game one on Daybreak opened with Major attempting to apply heavy hellion pressure repeatedly while developing the infrastructure for a strong mech army. However, Idra displayed amazing drone splitting and with the help of a few roaches, denied the hellions from doing any significant damage.
The hellions did succeed in keeping IdrA on the defensive, allowing the Terran player to establish three bases with full mining saturation unimpeded. A flock of mutalisks appeared to be wasted as plenty of turrets and thors were in position, but IdrA's decisive plan was revealed as a mass of roaches loaded up into a cloud of overlords for a devasting drop. The roach and mutalisk force landed directly upon the suddenly less-than-intimidating group of tanks and thors and the Zerg units dealt massive damage to the Terran economy. Only repairing SCVs and five banshees was able to stem the flood of roaches.
Still, IdrA continued to create mutalisks and roaches, trading those forces for thors and denying the central Terran fourth base long enough for broodlords to appear. Major managed to hold off the first push of broodlords with impressive Thor target firing, but the final swell of roaches was too much for the Terran defenses, giving IdrA a 1-0 advantage in the match.
Game two on Shakuras Plateau saw Major prepare a hellion and marauder attack while building a quick third command center, hoping to take advantage of close positions to the north. However, the attack did no direct damage and IdrA's fast lair yielded quick mutalisks. However, with good marine positioning, the mutalisks were unable to do any damage immediately.
After establishing his three bases with the proper amount of drones, IdrA created a threatening force of zerglings, banelings, and mutalisks for an attack at Major's third base. While the attack appeared to succeed, only four SCVs were killed, leaving both players with a healthy economy as the lategame commenced.
Without any thors on the map for the moment, IdrA continued to produce mutalisks, doing plenty of damage at the natural expansion of the Terran player and destroying a fourth command center in construction while a squad of marines destroyed IdrA's southeast base.
IdrA once again chose broodlords as his hive unit, but remained active in the center of the map, trading well and preventing the Terran from establishing a strong position in the center of the map. Major eventually restrained the mutalisk production with thors and managed to kill the infestation pit with a drop, but the broodlords morphed and a commanding Zerg army in the center crushed through the Terran forces before Major could establish a fourth base, giving IdrA a well-won 2-0 victory in the match.
IdrA advanced to the semifinal of the championship bracket to face ViBE for a spot in the grand final.
